Take a Virtual TourWe are thrilled to announce that £17,000 has been raised for the benefit of young people thanks to the success of our annual Warren Hegg Golf Classic, sponsored by Wainhomes.
The event took place at Stockport Golf Club on 26th May where 20 teams took part in a day of golf, auctioning and delicious food.
A team from Wigan Youth Zone took home the 1st placed prize, whilst Grantreel Construction and Kay Johnson Gee came second and third respectively. A big well done must also go to Carl Knights who shot the best score of the day!
During the day there were additional games with the chance of winning prizes, including Beat The Pro, Nearest The Pin and Longest Drive.
During the evening, which was hosted masterfully by Preston Youth Zone Chairman Guy Topping, guests enjoyed a three course meal and were surprised by Wigan Youth Zone’s “Singing Waiters” who performed Master of The House from Les Miserables. Following a game of “Red Card Yellow Card”, in honour of this years Euro Football Championships, there was an auction with prizes including VIP tickets to England vs Pakistan cricket match, signed and framed prints from Steve Gerrard and Geoff Hurst, and tickets to watch Coldplay at the Etihad Stadium. Ex-Lancashire and England cricketer Warren Hegg hosted the “Heggheads” quiz which was all about his career, before presenting the awards to teams and individuals.
Events Co-ordinator Clare Warburton said: “On behalf of OnSide I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a triumph, including all the teams who took part and everyone at Stockport Golf Club. Thanks as well to all those who donated prizes and gave up their time to help, in particular our hosts Warren Hegg and Guy Topping, along-side scorer Dave Clarke, the Singing Waiters from Wigan Youth Zone and Stockport Golf Pro, Gary Norcott. The day would not have happened without our sponsor, Wainhomes, whose support of OnSide continues to grow each year and enables OnSide to carry on giving young people the opportunities they deserve. The proceeds of the Golf Day will support OnSide as we become a national movement, helping young people across the country by giving them somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to and for that we are truly grateful.”
