Take a Virtual TourAs 150 young people piled into Blackburn Youth Zone for the OnSide President’s Cup on Saturday, the atmosphere was alive with anticipation as to who would take home this year’s title.
Throughout the day young people could be heard chanting their Youth Zone’s names right across Blackburn town centre, as they went head-to-head in a range of sporting and dance challenges.
Reigning champions, Blackburn Youth Zone did a fantastic job hosting the event. From inspiring lunchtime performances by young people to an impromptu dance-off, they managed to keep spirits high throughout the day.
With a gut-load of determination and team spirit, each Youth Zone put their all into winning every game and it wasn’t long before the points started to roll in. By 5.30pm the results were in and there was one clear winner…
For a second year in a row Blackburn Youth Zone were able to reign supreme and take home the OnSide President’s Cup.
Neck-and-neck throughout the whole competition, Mahdlo was just pipped to the post by Wigan Youth Zone, who took second place.
Carlisle Youth Zone also received the Bill Holroyd Fair Play Trophy for a second year, in recognition of their team’s demonstrated sportsmanship.
We are extremely lucky to receive support from Norman K. Stoller CBE CStj DL, President of Mahdlo Youth Zone, who had this to say on the day: “I can’t think of a better sight than watching the growing number of teams within our OnSide family competing with all that they have got, during this day-long event. Nor can I think of a happier sound than that of our young people really enjoying themselves. I can’t imagine a better feeling than, as President, offering my Cup to the worthy winners of this annual competition.”
Each Youth Zone was asked to put their creative skills to the test and develop a unique video that would showcase their team, and training for the President’s Cup as well as a banner to represent their facility at the event. With 5 points up for grabs for each, our Youth Zones did themselves justice, creating some special works of art and the winners are:
In what can only be described as thoroughly exhilarating, the OnSide President’s Cup proved once again to be a successful event, really demonstrating the spirit of our Youth Zone network. Congratulations to each and every young person that took part—everyone’s a winners in our eyes!
