Take a Virtual TourWe are absolutely thrilled to announce that 28 participants from the Collaborative Learning Circle, have raised over £80K for the new Warrington Youth Zone, by taking part in the Caledonian Canoe Trip; Sixty miles of rowing from Fort William to Inverness, Scotland!
The brave team which comprised of 28 seasoned highways industry professionals made the 60-mile trip, travelling coast-to-coast in 14 two-man canoes, comprising of nightly camps in the bitter cold along the canals and Lochs of Scotland. Having been completely stripped of everyday luxuries, most of the CLC team had never previously stepped foot inside a canoe, making this a HUGE physical and mental task.
And what an endurance challenge it was! There were gallant reports of battling winds, capsized canoes, aggressive rapids, vital supplies seized by the river and biting cold, whipping winds! All ensuring this was a challenge of epic proportions!
What was never dampened (well nearly almost never!), was the determination, spirit, and camaraderie of this heroic CLC Team.
They successfully completed the mammoth task canoeing of 60 miles in treacherous conditions, to raise over a staggering £80K for Warrington Youth Club, which will soon become Warrington Youth Zone, with a brand new building, state-of-the-art facilities and the opportunity to welcome an additional 3,000 members per year.
We are completely blown away by the outstanding effort of the CLC Team, taking on such a personal challenge for the benefit of young people in Warrington. The astonishing amount raised will make a real difference to the young people across Warrington and will enable thousands of young people to benefit the enhanced facilities and increased offer that the new Youth Zone will bring.
Adam Garner, Social Value Manager for Kier, said:
“All of us are really proud of what we’ve done. We’ve rowed 60 miles, we have some great memories, the teamwork has been fantastic, and we’ve seen some beautiful scenery along the way. Topping it all off, to do it all in aid of OnSide and raise over £80,000 for under privileged young people is the real victory for all of us here.”
