Jamie and Jimmy cook up a storm for The Way Youth Zone on Channel 4’s Friday Night Feast!

11th February 2019 by OnSide 2 min

The Way Youth Zone in Wolverhampton was featured on Channel 4’s Friday Night Feast on the 8th February 2019, with Jamie and Jimmy visiting the state-of-the art facility to see the fantastic youth services available for local young people and raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating.

In this episode, Jamie and Jimmy took on an incredibly important issue that’s close to their hearts, working with The Way Youth Zone to give teenagers a masterclass in cooking whilst encouraging the local community to run more practical cooking courses.

While filming at The Way, Jamie and Jimmy spoke to CEO Carla Priddon about the vital role it plays in the local area. It provides thousands of young people with access to a range of high-quality sport, arts, health and employability services as well as targeted support for those who need it most. The pair then jumped into the boxing ring for a quick sparring session!

Jamie and Jimmy had a tour of The Way’s canteen where hot fresh food is made daily and sold for £1 to young people; a vital service for many of its members who may not be able to afford a nutritious meal or have the means to cook one.

Jamie Oliver gave the youngsters a masterclass in how to cook colourful, healthy meals – which resulted in them cooking up a tasty stir fry and serving up food for parents, patrons and members of staff.

CEO, Carla Priddon added: “It is vital for the Way that we are able to give our young people the best experiences possible.

“By working with Jamie, Jimmy and the team, ten young people were given the chance to explore exciting ways of cooking healthy food, to think about nutrition and have fun!

“This will have a ripple effect as these young people take their new-found skills back to their families and wider-communities.

“It is also wonderful that The Way is having exposure on primetime TV. We hope that many people see our charity, hear what we do for the community in Wolverhampton and choose to visit us, or support us, in the future.”

Young people who took part in the show commented:

Lamar Turner age 15 – “It was a great experience, and I still cook the food we made on the show at home!”

Shammiah Samuels age 15 – “It was fun and I really enjoyed the experience.”

Elias Haq age 16 – “It made me feel like a celebrity, I can’t wait to watch it again on T.V.”

Ethan Stubbs age 16 – “It was a really good experience, it was very intriguing”
