Take a Virtual TourWe are delighted to announce the Get a Job programme has hit a 79% success rate of young people progressing through the course into either employment or further education training.
Mahdlo, Mancheseter Youth Zone and Wigan Youth Zone are all supporting young people to get the right skills to find work through the new Get a Job course. Kindly supported by Accenture UK, the course offers young people the opportunity to learn CV writing skills, interview techniques and teamwork skills to help boost their chances of finding a job in the competitive working industry.
One of the opportunities provided by the programme has recently seen a group of youngsters from Mahdlo visit the capital, London, alongside young fashion entrepreneur Eric Bishyika to meet some of the UK’s leading retailers for advice and tips on how to get ahead in the fast moving world of catwalks, clothes & merchandising.
Chris Hughes, Employability & Enterprise Co-ordinator at Mahdlo commented on the success of the trip: “The Mahdlo Merchandise Project was a great opportunity for these young people to get experience of developing and running a business. The young people had full control of creating, designing, pricing, marketing and selling a new range of merchandise for Mahdlo Youth Zone. This all started with a trip to our capital to see how industry professionals do it. This trip and opportunity could not have been possible without the support of charitable donations to Mahldo.”
The Factory Youth Zone’s members also got involved as they put their gained enterprise skills to the test recently by raising enough money to buy themselves a trip to Paris for the weekend!
Youngster Charlotte Robinson, who started at the Wigan Youth Zone as a Young Leader Volunteer after dropping out of college, is another beneficiary of the course which has seen her progress through the Get a Job programme into work within the fashion industry.
She said: “The course made me feel confident to send out my new CV and I was able to send out a much improved covering letter too. “I was confident going into my interview for my role as Temporary Retail Assistant at The Range, as we had done some mock interviews on the Get a Job programme. I’m very happy I now have a job and I feel the skills I learnt on the Get a Job course have really helped me.”
