Kathryn Morley recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List

16th January 2024 by OnSide 2 min

We’re starting 2024 by celebrating the fantastic news that our previous CEO, Kathryn Morley, was named in the King’s New Year Honours List. Kathryn was awarded an MBE for services to young people; an honour deserved for her vast contributions to the youth sector.

Under Kathryn’s leadership, we grew to become the youth charity we are today, a strong network of 14 open Youth Zones supporting over 55,000 young people, with a further eight youth centres in development. This was thanks to Kathryn’s passion for making a difference in young lives and her vision to build OnSide into a national movement.

Kathryn not only transformed OnSide but also contributed significantly to the youth sector. During her tenure, she was a member of the Back Youth Alliance, a network of Chief Executives from prominent organisations across the youth sector who advise No 10 and Government Departments on issues impacting young people.

Kathryn shared: “It’s fantastic to be recognised in this way. I’m delighted to accept it on behalf of everyone who works at OnSide and across our growing network of Youth Zones for the amazing work they do to provide life-changing support that many thousands of young people benefit from.

“Having changed careers from the private sector to join a youth charity 10 years ago, I never imagined it would be such an incredible highlight of my career; I’ve loved every minute of it. Young people are amazing, and seeing them engaged, happy, and thriving is so rewarding. The OnSide Network makes this happen every day, all year.”

As we share this news of Kathryn’s award with pride, it come at a time of sadness as we mourn the tragic death of Kate Vokes, and son, Archie. Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with their family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time. Kate was a valued part of OnSide’s family, having been one of the early chairs of Manchester Youth Zone. Kathryn is dedicating her MBE to Kate, in recognition of her commitment to making a positive difference to the world.
