Mahdlo Stars Shine Bright

On Saturday night (26th April), we had the privilege of attending Mahdlo’s 2nd annual Star Awards—an event showcasing the achievements of young people from Oldham.

The evening was a hive of activity as over 300 people gathered at the Youth Zone for a presentation of 16 awards, recognising the fantastic work by its members over the last 12 months.

We were joined at the event by local business leaders, community champions and dignitaries to help celebrate the young people who have made Mahdlo a name to be proud of.

Our Grants and Trusts Manager, Claire had the honour of presenting the Junior Member of the Year Award and with over 1400 members in this category at Mahdlo, there was plenty of shining stars to choose from. Thankfully we didn’t have the tough task of determining the winner, we left that job to the Mahdlo team, and when Madison Potter-Ferrants claimed the title, the room literally erupted with applause and cheering.

We caught up with Claire to get her thoughts on the event: “The Star Awards were simply brilliant. Seeing so many young people and their families in attendance and being able to listen to the stories behind each award was truly inspiring. The Mahdlo team did a fabulous job of organising the event; I was amazed by the talent of Oldham’s young people, the dance and musical performances were outstanding. It was very rewarding to see young people represented and recognised in such a positive way.”

As an OnSide Youth Zone, we are incredibly proud of the achievements Mahdlo has made over the past two years, and the Awards night is the perfect culmination of lots of hard work by all of the Youth Zone’s staff and young people. We can’t wait until next year!!
