Take a Virtual TourThere’s only ‘One Direction’ the young people of Wolverhampton will be heading come January 2016 and that is to Wolverhampton’s new Youth Zone – The Way – after local music superstar Liam Payne attended its ‘Topping Out’ ceremony on Wednesday 22nd April showing his support towards this great project.
Liam, who along with Niall, Harry and Louis make up the world-renowned band One Direction, was born and raised in Wolverhampton and has shown his support towards the Youth Zone – something which is sure to delight the young people of the city once it opens early next year. Liam’s achievements to date include five Brit Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, eleven MTV Europe Music Awards, and nineteen Teen Choice Awards, among many others. The 21-year-old made a special appearance at Youth Zone ‘Topping Out’ ceremony, which celebrated the roof being erected onto Wolverhampton’s new Youth Zone.
The ceremony took place on the site of the new Youth Zone on Worcester Street in Wolverhampton and was hosted by Chairman of The Way, Steve Morgan OBE. Steve was joined by fellow board members, founder patrons, young people and of course Liam himself, to celebrate the key milestone in the building of The Way, before the guests were given a site tour by local contractors A & H Construction. Chairman Steve Morgan OBE was delighted to welcome Liam to the project: “The generosity of the business community in the city has ensured that Wolverhampton’s Youth Zone will soon be opening its doors to provide a huge range of opportunities for the young people of the city. A big thanks must also go to Liam for leading The Way in the right direction for young people! “Liam is Wolverhampton’s most inspirational young role model, his ambition, resilience and determination has led him to achieve phenomenal success in the music industry.
As one of Wolverhampton’s own, we are truly grateful to Liam for recognising the benefits The Way will bring to the young people of the city. His involvement will raise the spirits of our young generation and inspire them to aim high and reach their full potential.”
Liam Payne commented:
“Wolverhampton is my hometown and I am keen to give something back to the city that gave me a start in life. I can identify with a project like this that addresses the needs of young people and with my own interests in sport, music and drama I am passionate about this exciting project. Over the years, I have been lucky to have positive role models who encouraged, supported and inspired me and all young people deserve to have similar opportunities, which will help them reach their full potential.
He continued: “The benefits this project will bring for the whole city, giving all young people somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to, are unparalleled and I can’t wait to see it develop.” Wolverhampton Youth Zone is due to open in January 2016 and will become the seventh Youth Zone to open within our Youth Zone Network.
