Take a Virtual TourOne Young World is a UK-based charity founded in 2009. It aspires to “gather together the brightest young leaders from around the world, empowering them to make lasting connections to create positive change”.
Thousands of young people deemed “potential future leaders” gathered at this year’s One Young World Summit in The Hague, Netherlands. Delegates aged between 18 and 30 from over 180 countries debate, formulate and share innovative solutions for the pressing issues the world faces.
From the world of business, those speaking at this years Summit included Ben van Beurden, chief executive of Royal Dutch Shell; Rakesh Kapoor, chief executive of the Durex-to-Mr Sheen group RB; Bob Dudley, chief executive of BP; Tidjane Thiam, chief executive of Credit Suisse and Peter Schwarzenbauer, one of BMW’s top executives. Other participants include the former prime ministers Sir John Major and Gordon Brown, the actress Amber Heard and the astronaut Ron Garan.
Included on this list was our very own Chairman, and Founder of AO.com, John Roberts. John gave a rousing and inspiring speech – entitled The New Victorians: about how he believes today’s business leaders should be inspired by the 19th century’s business philanthropists, reflecting on the ways in which economic prosperity can benefit wider society and not just the one percent, drawing on lessons from the business philanthropists of Victorian Britain.
