Take a Virtual TourOnSide’s London ambassadors were able to spend a day in the life of a publisher as they visited Penguin Random House.
The young people enjoyed a masterclass at the world-famous book publisher, learning about the life cycle of a book and about the various jobs the industry offers.
Penguin Random House is the publisher of Future Youth Zone Founder Patron Paula Hawkins, author of the widely-acclaimed The Girl on the Train novel. Paula helped link the charity up with the organisation who kindly welcomed young people who work with OnSide in the capital into their offices for the day.
It was a special experience for all involved with a range of aspects discussed and the young people taking home some new reading material too!
OnSide’s Ambassadors for London (AFL) meet at City Hall every Wednesday with members from the three active London Development Groups regularly attending as well as other young people from across the capital.
AFL member Zuzana Fernandes said: “I learnt about all the stages of publishing and the various jobs involved, some of which interested me. This opportunity wouldn’t have come along without OnSide and as always I’m really grateful!”
Hannah McKeating said: “This was one of my favourite trips because it really got me interested in publishing. I had never realised how many different branches there are within the company (audio, editors, publisher) and I’m even thinking about work experience there.”
Delana Campbell said: “I really enjoyed it, I got to find out what publishing was all about.”
