The Factory Goes To Paris

26th April 2014 by OnSide 2 min

Members of The Factory Youth Zone’s ‘Get a Job’ course put their enterprise skills to the test recently, by raising enough money to buy themselves a trip to Paris for the weekend.

Employability worker at The Factory, Mindi promised members on her course, that when they completed the course they would be rewarded with a trip to anywhere they wanted—the only catch being that they had to raise the money with the skills they learnt on the course to do so. Meet Mindi from The Factory.

After numerous cake sales, a dance show, six bag packs and one carol singing performance they raised over £3,500; enough to jet off to Paris.

Mindi, Employability Coordinator, told us: “I’m really proud of the young people as they did so well in raising an incredible amount of money. I think this will be a brilliant lesson for their future careers that if you work hard you can achieve. One young person from this course has already gone on to pursue her dream job as a Children’s Representative abroad.”

Get A Job Course

Thanks to funding from Accenture’s corporate citizenship initiative, Skills to Succeed, three of our Youth Zones in Wigan, Oldham (Mahdlo) and Manchester (The Factory) have been able to implement a new ‘Get A Job’ course, which aims to help young people aged 16-19 years old get the right skills to secure employment.
