Unifiying The North & South

20th June 2014 by OnSide 1 min

Young people from Haringey, London travelled north at the weekend, to visit three Youth Zones in our Network.

Mahdlo (Oldham), Wigan and Manchester Youth Zones had the pleasure of hosting nine young people from Unity Radio, an exciting youth radio station project in South Tottenham, Haringey for two days of activity and discovery, which would provide an insight into what it’s like to be a Youth Zone member.

“I think the Youth Zones are mind-blowing. I have been left speechless with what I have seen. It has given me a lot of inspiration,” David aged 24, Unity Radio Project, Haringey.

We saw Youth Zone members gleam with pride as they were able to showcase their facilities to London’s young people. The interaction between the groups of young people was truly inspirational; they worked together, communicated with each other to share ideas, and started to form friendships.

OnSide plans to open three Youth Zones in the capital and we are working closely with local youth groups from across the city, to expose more young people to a Youth Zone and find out what they need and want from their leisure facilities.

“I’ve learnt that building relationships with young people and making them feel comfortable really helps in building a safe and fun environment.” Jermaine aged 18, Unity Radio Project, Haringey.

A video documentary was produced whilst the young people were at Wigan Youth Zone, find out more about their views here:
