Take a Virtual TourCarlisle Youth Zone continued their employability work with young people as they hosted the final of their hugely successful ZChef competition with the lucky winner, Callum Allardice winning an apprenticeship at the Shabby Scholar Bar and Restaurant in Carlisle.
ZChef was a competition which saw over 20 young people learn cooking skills at various restaurants across Carlisle and they even learnt how to make cocktails!
Callum Allardice and Mary Docton were the final two standing and the pair battled it out, cooking a two course meal for judges at Carlisle Youth Zone last week.
Mary cooked up a Sumatra lamb curry, with dahl, coconut salad and pilau rice. It was followed by a chocolate pudding with coffee custard, served with fresh raspberries.
Callum whipped up a spaghetti carbonara, with lemon drizzle cake for dessert.
And after much debate from the judges, 17-year-old Callum was named the winner and presented with his chef’s whites and will now become a trainee at Carlisle restaurant, The Shabby Scholar thanks to owner Sam Newman.
