VIDEO: It’s what’s in the heart that matters #ALLYOUNGPEOPLECAN

10th August 2015 by Onside Youth Zones 1 min

Mahdlo’s Daniel Wain has cerebral palsy, and is a powerchair user.

Daniel is keen on sports and is part of the Oldham Wheelies Powerchair Football Team. He took up Boccia at high school and started playing for Rochdale Boccia’s in 2010. He plays in the BC1 category and in 2014 came 3rd in Great Britain. He was also invited onto the Boccia England Talent Pathway programme.

In 2014 Daniel won the Borough of Rochdale Disability Sports Achiever of the Year Award and was entered into the Greater Manchester Sports Awards and insists: “It doesn’t matter if you have a disability, it’s what’s in the heart that matters.”

Thanks to the opportunities at Mahdlo Youth Zone and the A Level Playing Field Project – a new unique partnership project between OnSide, our Youth Zones and Seashell Trust, which aims to support over 1,200 disabled young people, aged 8-25 yr old’s – Daniel continues to progress through the Boccia England Talent Pathway programme and he has recently moved into supported living with two other young people.
