Warrington Councillors Visit Wigan Youth Zone

27th February 2015 by Onside Youth Zones 1 min

We were delighted to invite councillors from Warrington Borough Council to Wigan Youth Zone last week for a tour of Wigan Youth Zone’s 21st century facilities as we develop the prospect of opening a Youth Zone in Warrington.

Nine councillors were joined by Warrington Youth Club Chairman Nick Hopkinson MBE – renowned for his charity fundraising in which he raised many thousands of pounds for Bolton Lads and Girls Club – the Youth Club in which OnSide models itself on – as well as Warrington Youth Club Chief Executive Dave McNicholl.

The tour was of course lead by young people who gave the councillors an insight into the busy senior night which saw close to 200 young people enjoy a range of activities, from rock climbing and football to arts, dance and drama.

After the tour, we caught up with Councillor Jean Carter, Lead member for Children and Young People’s services in Warrington and she told us how a Youth Zone in Warrington would benefit the borough:
