Take a Virtual TourNearly 300 young people from across the UK took part in OnSide’s biggest ever President’s Cup at Carlisle Youth Zone.
As well as the excellent hosts, teams came from Bolton, Blackburn, London, Manchester, Oldham, Wigan, Wirral, Wolverhampton and, for the first time, Chorley and Warrington. Once again the event was kindly supported by Sir Norman Stoller CBE KStJ DL.
The 11 Youth Zones went head to head on a series of challenges including Boccia, Dodgeball, tag rugby, wheelchair basketball, graffiti art and climbing. The most important aspect of the day was that all young people played with fair play and integrity.
Friendships were made and regained from years gone by as this incredible event once again opened doors for young people to meet other young people from different towns, cities and backgrounds.
There could only be one winner though. After four years of Blackburn taking the crown, finally there was a new winner in The Way, who also took home the Senior Cup. Blackburn took home the junior team title while the creative team award went to Bolton Lads & Girls Club and The Factory were crowned Inclusion team champions. Wigan Youth Zone was awarded the Bill Holroyd Fair Play trophy.
OnSide’s opening manager Phil Marsh, who co-ordinated the projected, said: “Once again the President’s Cup proved to be another brilliant event with hundreds of young people doing themselves and their Youth Zones proud. I want to thank everybody at Carlisle Youth Zone for being such brilliant hosts and helping put on such a spectacular event.”
Sir Norman Stoller CBE KStJ DL said: “The President’s Cup seems to just get bigger and bigger every year and I am incredibly proud to support the event. I’d like to congratulate The Way on claiming the crown but also every young person who took part and showed such endeavour and sportsmanship on what was a great day. I’m already looking forward to next year!”
Thanks to everyone who made the day a huge success. Please take a moment to browse through the gallery of images from the day below.
