We commissioned a Social Return on Investment report looking at activity across the OnSide Network. We think it’s essential to be able to demonstrate the impact of universal youth work, and to articulate this impact in terms of improvements to the health and wellbeing of children and young people.

We wanted to hear first-hand from Youth Zone members about their experience. More than anything, members told us the things they value most about their Youth Zone are…

  • feeling free to have fun
  • having somewhere safe to go in their spare time
  • and feeling more self-confident

This research has strengthened our understanding of the impact generated by universal youth work, and demonstrates significant improvements to wellbeing for the children and young people who access Youth Zones.

It provides a solid evidence base for local authorities, businesses, philanthropists, and those wanting to invest in young people that OnSide Youth Zones are a powerful, practical option for creating real change.
