Today we've been speaking about how drugs and alcohol affect our local areas and how we can prevent them. We spoke a lot about some of the different drugs out there as well as people grooming young people to use and distribute drugs.
We’d love to show you around a local Youth Zone, allowing you to see for yourself the impact that these centres make. Simply fill in your details below and a member of the team will be in touch to arrange a visit.
Take a Virtual TourThe aim of the group is to give young people a voice, raise awareness of issues that affect them and united the network through social action projects.
Each meeting holds a certain topic and this time the group spoke about drug and alcohol issues that affect them as young people and also their local areas in general.
After a fun warm-up led by Future Youth Zone CEO Gavin Evans, who heads up the group, everyone split up into their respective Youth Zones to discuss the services available in their local areas before coming back as a larger group and talking about the similarities and differences.
Issues that arose included the use of drugs and alcohol by young people across the country and the different ways they become involved with the substances.
There were also some fantastic discussions surrounding the work done by so many wonderful organisations who help young people make the right choices and work with them when they are in trouble.
The second half of the session (after a fab lunch put together by the Wigan Youth Zone staff, which of course included pies – thanks guys!) saw the groups discuss what Youth Zones can do to promote healthier lifestyles and campaigns that could be run to combat drug and alcohol.
