Our Team

Catherine Havers

Head of Philanthropy

Catherine Havers leads the Senior Philanthropy Managers responsible for Founder Patron support for new Youth Zones outside the south-east. Catherine also focuses time on developing relationships with partners who want to make gifts to new capital campaigns and the OnSide organisation as a whole.

Following a career in higher education fundraising and voluntary roles in the charitable sector, Catherine joined OnSide in May 2022. Inspired by OnSide’s vision and its alignment with her passion for widening access to opportunities for young people, she is excited to work with partners to achieve OnSide’s ambitious plans, growing and strengthening the Youth Zone Network across the UK.

What inspired you to join OnSide?

Having worked in HE fundraising for my career to date, I really wanted a new challenge. I was attracted to the immense impact that the OnSide Network has, not just on our members every single day, but on the communities in which the Youth Zones are based.

What’s been a memorable moment you’ve had working with the team?

Seeing two new Youth Zones open that my team have raised the money for is really special. I love OnSide’s ambition, and it’s great to see that come to fruition and see thousands of young people coming through the doors of a shiny new Youth Zone!

What was the first Youth Zone you visited and what did you think?

The first Youth Zone I visited was HideOut in Manchester. I was so impressed with the quality of the facilities but most of all the incredible staff that work their magic day in and day out with young people. As someone with no background in this sector, it’s a real privilege to see youth work in action.

What would be your go-to Youth Zone room and why?

The arts room – not because I’m arty! But because whatever activity going on in there always makes for a peaceful experience (well, most of the time!), and the conversations that young people are having with each other are always lovely. I also love the incredible displays in these rooms, they’re so impressive and uplifting.
