Take a Virtual TourI hadn’t heard of OnSide, but my recruiter couldn’t have said nicer things about the charity. I did my research and instantly loved what I saw. The inspirational stories and dedication to young people shown by everyone at OnSide and the OnSide network was amazing learn about. You just have to look at the Youth Zones to know they mean business!
There are so many but the most memorable has to be prior to joining OnSide. I was originally successful in landing my role a year before I actually started. However, I had some health issues and wasn’t able to accept the role. OnSide kept in contact with me to check how I was getting on then fast forward a year and the role came up again, so they asked if I wanted to throw my hat in the ring. Naturally I jumped at the opportunity and as fate would have it, here I am. The care and understanding that I was shown during a particularly difficult period in my life has been evident during my time at OnSide too; everyone is a joy to work with and so supportive.
I was shown round Warrington Youth Zone at my interview and was astounded by the facilities. Since then, I’ve spent a lot of time at WYZ and not only is the building amazing but so are the staff that work there. Observing how passionate they are and how much they care about and connect with young people is humbling.
Definitely the boxing room. There are so many positive stories about boxing turning a young person’s life around, I think it’s a great discipline and helps channel emotions in a positive way. That or just hanging about in hubbub of reception!
Apparently, Dave Murray (lead guitarist of Iron Maiden) is my 3rd cousin, 4 times removed. The young rocker in me is delighted by this!
