Take a Virtual TourI became aware of the work of OnSide when working in local government and conversations around developing a new Youth Zone in South Bristol. I really liked the charity’s ambition for providing fantastic spaces and support for young people in areas of disadvantaged, and the funding model felt very unique.
I happened to join the team just a few weeks before the General Election (timely for a policy focused role!) and part of my first weeks included working with the team at HideOut Youth Zone to organise a visit by the new Home Secretary. Watching one enthusiastic member showcase his baking skills and ask the minster to help promote his cookery TikTok channel was a highlight!
My first tour was Unitas Youth Zone, up in Barnet, as part of my interview and I then spent a half day with the CEO and his team. I was amazed at the building and range and quality of activities available! It also became clear how integral the centre had become to young people and their families across the borough, every day of the year.
I’m always impressed by the music room – there are some amazing young drummers across our membership! And also love the art space, so many fantastic creations.
