What inspired you to join OnSide?

It sounds cliché but working somewhere that makes a real difference. Having worked in the private sector previously, for me it’s important that I am genuinely passionate about my job and that I’m communicating something I truly believe in. I have never seen anything quite like a Youth Zone before and think every young person should get to experience the magic, its special to be part of a team that is helping to make that happen. The potential reach of OnSide and the growth over the next few years also makes it a really exciting time to be part of a forward-thinking charity.

What’s been a memorable moment you’ve had working with the team?

Openings are unquestionably phenomenal, so attending Warrington Youth Zone’s opening was a highlight but my standout moment was probably working with Preston Youth Zone’s (now Vault’s) Young People’s Development Group on developing their brand. It was my first experience of this, and I loved getting to know the young people, gaining insight from them and seeing how much they took away from the experience. I was also really happy with the brand itself which made it even better!

What was the first Youth Zone you visited and what did you think?

Wigan Youth Zone for one of my interviews – I was blown away. The scale, the impact, the people – I really hadn’t seen anything like this before and knew from this moment that OnSide was unique.

What would be your go-to Youth Zone room and why?

Probably the recording studio – I am a keen dancer (well I was, lets say retired dancer now!) but always wanted to be more creative and learn to play an instrument, sing or even have a dabble at radio presenting!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I am a qualified street dance teacher and up until a few years ago used to teach alongside working or studying. I absolutely love dancing – it had a huge impact on my life, so it was nice to be able to teach and to see how it impacted others.
